Dosanko Larmen, Melbourne, Australia

I’d just gotten back from my second Japan trip and was on my way with a mate to hopefully watch Hawthorn continue on their journey for their 4th consecutive AFL premiership.

I’d walked past this particular restaurant many times mid afternoon when it was closed, but this evening it’d be open and we’d be walking up Little Bourke Street on the way to the match at The G.

Heading down the stairs soon after opening at 5:45pm there were already a good number of people seated and having a feed. By the time we left about an hour later they were turning people away.

Dosanko Larmen is a Japanese Ramen & Yakitori restaurant. We were mostly here for meat on a stick!

The yakitori here comes in 5 varieties – chicken thigh, chicken breast, chicken meatball, scallops & grilled lamb chop. We ordered 2 servings, so 10 sticks, of assorted chicken skewers. The taste was quite authentic and very close to what you’d be served in Japan. They really bought back some good memories.

To accompany our yakitori we also order a serving of Gyoza, assorted pickles, fried octopus and Chashu (a pork ramen dish). All were superb.

A Suntory Premium Malt’s each washed down a very good meal.

If you’re into Japanese food and you’re up the top end of Little Bourke Street then pop in for a very good meal.

Oh, and by the way, Hawthorn lost the match 🙁
