For my final dinner in Paris before heading off to Amsterdam I wanted to dine at a French restaurant that had mostly good review so I chose the close by La Luge.
After a morning walking tour around Le Marais with Paris Walks I headed over to Robert et Louise for lunch only to find that they weren’t open for lunch on Tuesday. Dan, a Fedex pilot who I met on a couple of the walking tours, was with me so we decided to meander along to … Continue reading Le Bar Du Marché, Paris, France
In Saint Michel you will see the name Severin everywhere… streets, a church, restaurants. Severin was a hermit who lived on the banks of the Seine and the current day Church of Saint-Séverin is built over his tomb. After a big lunch, a couple of beers, and a crepe & wine for afternoon tea I … Continue reading Le Saint Séverin, Saint Michel, Paris, France
Some friends suggested I get a crepe at one of the copious number of Crêperies in the Saint Michel area. Close to my hotel was Chez Suzette and that’s where I ended up.
In Saint Michel there’s an Irish bar called Corcoran’s Irish Pub. It’s part of a chain of 8 bars in Paris.
Close to the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris is a small cafe / wine and cheese store in a building that’s apparently around 600 years old!
I’d had a lazy Sunday and didn’t have lunch… surviving instead on caffeine so by the time I’d gotten back to Saint Michel I was famished. I’d spotted another French restaurant just past La Cochonnaille so I thought I’d give it a try.
After a bit of a siesta after a Saturday of eating and drinking I headed off to see what restaurants were hiding in the laneways of Saint Michel to see what the options were. I strolled down to Boulevard Saint-Germain, up Rue Dante and Rue de l’Hotel Colbert and Quai du Montebello but nothing really … Continue reading Café le Petit Pont, Saint Michel, Paris, France
After a couple of beers at Frog XVI, I got the bus back to Saint-Michel and as I was walking back to my hotel I started to feel a bit hungry. There’s a large Italian restaurant on the corner of Rue Saint-Séverin and Rue de la Harpe called Rim Café.
Frog is a chain of English Pub-like bars in France. Frog XVI is in Trocadero in the 16th arrondissement.
To the north west of the Eiffel Tower, right on the Place Du Trocadero is a largish cafe called Le Cafe Du Trocadero. It’s got indoor, outdoor and upstairs seating. The weather was mild on the day I visited, but still needed a jacket to sit outside. Unfortunately the seats facing Place Du Trocadero and the … Continue reading Le Cafe Du Trocadero, Trocadero, Paris, France
Close to the hotel was another restaurant I’d passed and wanted to try one dinner time. And this evening was the time. Around 6pm on a Friday evening I was perusing the menu from the street and saw that La Cochonnaille offered a set menu for dinner.
In the morning I’d gone on a Hemingway’s Paris walking tour hosted by Paris Walks. Highly recommended. As we were walking through the Latin Quarter hearing stories of Hemingway and Joyce amongst others, I was taking notes of potential places for lunch. One bar, called The Bombardier, near the Pantheon and Saint-Étienne-du-Mont church took my fancy.
After a day out being a tourist you need somewhere to relax and have a beer while decompressing. Bull’s Brothers Pub in Saint Michel was that place for me.
After walking probably 10km around Paris during the day I ended up back at Albe Hôtel and after a rest I decided to try another restaurant close by to the hotel for dinner.
My first full day in Paris saw me wake up at a relatively sane time and after the continental buffet breakfast at Albe Hôtel I decided to go for a walk. And walk I did, along the left bank of the Seine from St Michel to the Eiffel Tower, only straying from the river due to … Continue reading Castel Café, Paris, France
After a quick snooze at Albe Hôtel after the flight from Hong Kong I was looking for some sustenance. Luckily the area around Saint Michel is full of bars and restaurants so I didn’t have to go to far. I did a bit of a walk around the neighborhood to see what options were on offer … Continue reading Pizza Sarno, St Michel, Paris, France
After a bit of a train delay on the RER B I arrived at Gare de Saint-Michel – Notre-Dame. I then proceeded, as is my way, to lose my bearings and go in completely the wrong direction and exit the station 500 metres from my hotel. If I’d actually looked at the signs, and exited towards … Continue reading Albe Hôtel Saint-Michel, Paris, France
You can’t fault the location of this cafe under the trees, next to the lake complete with waddling ducks in the park in front of the Louvre in Paris.
After spending the morning at The Eiffel Tower I’d headed back to my hotel, The Hilton Paris at La Defence, for a little bit of a siesta to get over the jet lag. Hunger got the better of me so I searched TripAdvisor to see what decent restaurants were close to the hotel and I … Continue reading Lavinia, La Defense, Paris, France
Landing in Paris at around 7am I was heading to my hotel, the Hilton Paris La Défense, via the RER – 2 trains with a interchange at Châtelet – Les Halles for the onward train to La Défense – all up probably 75 minutes. I was hoping that I could check in early to get some shut eye … Continue reading Hilton Paris La Défense, Paris, France
