Kushikatsu Daruma, Kitashinchi, Osaka, Japan

I was only in Osaka for a short time and I’d headed out of my hotel on my final evening with the intention of having Okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancake) but the place I intended to eat at was fully booked so I started wandering around the Kita-ku area and found a place serving kushikatsu which is deep fried skewered crumbed meat and vegetables – think fried yakitori. I’d not tried Kushikatsu so I thought, why not.

Craft Beer Base, Osaka, Japan

I’d decided to head to the observatory at the top of the Umeda Sky Building. The indoor observatory on the 40th floor was open but due to the typhoon damage in early September the open rooftop observatory was closed 🙁 So after about 30 minutes I decided to head off.

Lunch time, well morning tea time, was approaching and the craft beer map pointed me to a couple of local establishments and I chose to try Craft Beer Base.

Beer Belly Tosabori, Osaka, Japan

After a 13 minute Sunday afternoon shinkansen trip from Shin-Kobe to Shin-Osaka followed by a local train to Osaka Station I’d settled into my hotel and was looking for somewhere for an afternoon beer and a meal.

A walk of 15 minutes had me outside Beer Belly in Tosabori pretty much at opening time. When I entered there was only one other patron.

HOPSTAND, Kobe, Japan

After a quick subway ride from Shin-Kobe to Sannomiya station I was in the bustling centre of Kobe.

HOPSTAND is only around 100m from the western end of Sannomiya subway station, but it felt like 1km as I trudged up and down the small streets as my GPS tried to get a fix. But get a fix I eventually did and was soon seated in the small bar called HOPSTAND.
