Goryukaku Yumin, Hakodate, Japan

I’d read that Hokkaido is famous for Shio Ramen, so when I saw a ramen restaurant close to Goryukaku Park I decided to give it a try despite some dubious reviews. It’s actually touted as a Chinese restaurant.

Goryukaku Yumin appears to be quite dated, and it wasn’t doing a roaring trade when I went in, but I decided to take a seat so I could try shio ramen. I also ordered a beer.

The ramen took around 10 minutes to be prepared.

It was a clear broth soup that lacked much flavour at all. So little flavour that it was hard to pin down what it tasted like at all. Maybe that’s just shio ramen, but it was not for me.

Maybe their other dishes are better, but for me, I don’t think I’d eat hear again.
