I’d made a last minute decision to change hotels after working out it’d be difficult to get around where I was originally staying.
As I was looking for my new hotel, Palais de Chine popped up. You can’t fault the location. Just across the road from Taipei Main Station, and a 7 minute walk to the airport railway station. It’s in the same building as the Q Square shopping centre. The hotel occupies the higher floors.
As a bonus, while I was searching, there was a special deal for the hotel that gave me free breakfasts!
Palais de Chine Hotel, Taipei, Taiwan
I made the mistake of trying to get from the airport railway station to the hotel underground. To say that the labyrinth of walkways, tunnels, shops and doors were overwhelming is an understatement. I would have been much better heading straight to street level and crossing 2 roads to get the the hotel. You live and learn!
Check-in was painless and I was in my room maybe 10 minutes after arriving. The room was plush with deep red colors, and very well appointed. There was some level of automation with the lights which took a bit of time to get a handle on, but I got there in the end.
The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable and I had decent sleeps.
The bathroom had a bath, separate shower and a toilet. All had huge windows next to them and I wondered each time I used them if people could see in the windows from the station across the street. If so, I hope they enjoyed the show.
The hotel has a focus on sustainability, they don’t provide many of the usual disposable amenities that you used to get in hotels, but many hotels are going the same way these days. One nice touch was that they gave you a reusable water bottle in the room, and on each floor was a water dispenser to refill the bottle with filtered water as needed, an excellent facility!
Breakfasts had the standard buffet offerings, both western and chinese, though being a smaller hotel the choice was limited.
I did have dinner one evening in the hotel restaurant. I’d originally wanted to try the well regarded Le Palais chinese restaurant, but it was booked out, so I dined in Le The (this is also where breakfast was served). During the time of my stay the dinners were Canadian themed with pretty much a set menu. The meal was superb! And it was huge, so huge, I couldn’t actually finish all the food.
All round the Palais de Chine is a superb hotel in a great location. I would not hesitate to stay here again.
