On my first morning in Japan I jumped on the Ginza subway line and headed to Asakusa with no real agenda in mind.
Popping out near the Sumida River I took a quick walk along Kasenjiki Park trying to stay in the shade to protect myself from the already blisteringly hot sun.
When the heat became too much I had a quick look to see what restaurants there were locally and a tonkatsu restaurant called Tonkatsu Toyama caught my eye.
Tonkatsu Toyama, Tokyo, Japan
I arrived shortly after opening and there were already a good number of people enjoying their meals but there were a couple of empty seats at the counter which I was offered.
As the name suggests this is a katsu restaurant. Katsu is essentially panko crumbed and fried pork or chicken cutlets.
I ordered the pork loin katsu which comes with a soup and rice.

Meal tasted superb and was a great way to kick off my latest Japan adventure.
This restaurant can get very busy at lunchtime, a testament to their food, so maybe get in early if you want to dine here.
This restaurant is cash only.
