Curry Vault, Melbourne, Australia

A friend had told me of a great Indian restaurant in the Melbourne CBD. Yesterday I had the opportunity to give it a try, and I have to say that this is the best Indian restaurant I’ve  eaten at in Melbourne in a long, long time.

The Curry Vault is in Bank Place near the Mitre Tavern off Collins Street. It was a balmy Thursday evening and the restaurant was full. We were lucky to get a table.

I’ve eaten alot of Indian food in my time and I’m a bit of a curry fan, though I’ve found that I can’t handle the super hot curries like I used to. I guess I’m getting old. But I still do enjoy a mild, tasty curry with all the fixins.

This evening we decided to try a couple of favorites to see how they measure up. We started with Pappadums,  Onion Bhajia and Chicken Pakora… very good.

For mains we shared a Chilli Beef and a Lamb Vindaloo with rice. I also had a great Keema Naan washed down with a Kingfisher beer. The serving sizes were so generous we couldn’t actually finish it all.

I have to say that this was the best curries I’ve had in Melbourne in years and at about $50 a head it was very reasonably priced.

I will be back… and often.
