Café de Sluyswacht, Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Last year when I was in Amsterdam I visited Café de Sluyswacht a couple of times as I liked the view over the canal and there’s a reasonably good choice of beers.

After my visit to Beer Tasting Room In The Wildeman I was heading back to my hotel but decided to have a pitstop on the way.

The weather wasn’t as good as it was last year and it only got to about 16 degrees with the occasional shower but I was able to sit out on the patio.

A Belgian Leffe Dubbel caught my eye so I ordered one and I wasn’t disappointed. It had a rich caramel flavor that made this a very easy beer to drink.

I hadn’t eaten since my crepe at Cocotte and I needed something other than beer in my stomach so I ordered a serving of bitterballen which are deep fried Dutch meatballs. They have a weird texture but are really tasty. Be careful, if they’re right out of the fryer it’s like biting into lava.

I’d settled in by this stage so as my glass emptied I ordered a La Trappe Tripel that I’d had at The Wildeman an hour or so earlier.

Another great little bar in Amsterdam that you should not miss. Try to get there on a warm, summer’s day.
