Hakodate

I’d decided to stay close to Hakodate train station as this was my first visit to Hakodate and I wanted to make sure I didn’t have to lug my suitcase around. There is a JR hotel at the station and several others within a 5 minute walk.

My time in Hakodate was coming to a close so I decided to head out for one last feast. About a block from Hakodate Station is a outdoor food court called Daimon Yokocho with 26 little izakaya type restaurants all offering something different.

I’d read that Hokkaido is famous for Shio Ramen, so when I saw a ramen restaurant close to Goryukaku Park I decided to give it a try despite some dubious reviews. It’s actually touted as a Chinese restaurant.

It was still pouring with rain but I had to get out and try to do some sightseeing in Hakodate, so I jumped on the tram to head upto Goryokaku Park to have a look around. The rain cleared long enough for me to jump on a tram to head to a brewpub that I had spotted the day before. From JR Hakodate station its a 2 stop tram ride followed by a short walk to get to the location.

Lucky Pierrot is a local chain of hamburger restaurants in Hakodate that seems to have a huge following. Around lunchtime on a very, very wet day I jumped on the tram and ended up in Honcho and made the quick walk to the Honcho branch of Lucky Pierrot.

In the evening I was feeling a little bit peckish and did a quick scout around the area near my hotel but I didn’t find much open, and those that were had a queue, or didn’t interest me.
