Melbourne Whisky Room, Melbourne, Australia

After our disappointing laksas we walked to Russell Street and went to the Melbourne Whisky Room which is the upstairs part of Whisky and Alement.

Our luck was on a roll and there was a spare booth which we were quickly seated at.

The whisky selection upstairs is not as extensive as downstairs but was probably better quality.

We started with a very nice Japanese Nikka Yoichi 12 year old, a very nice drop that never fails to impress.

Secondly we tried the Kavalan Solist ex-bourbon cask from Taiwan. I wasn’t overly fond of this one and found it too sweet and the really strong flavor from the bourbon cask just didn’t agree with me.

Our third tasting was a Spring Hill cask number 23 which is port cask matured. This was probably the whisky of the evening just slightly shading the Yoichi.

To finish off the evening we went to Ireland with a Redbreast 12 year old single pot still. A delicious flavour to round out our tastings.

If you are into whisky, then The Mebourne Whisky Room is a very nice place to finish off your evening out in the Melbourne CBD and is certainly worth a visit.
