Hôtel ibis Styles Lyon Centre – Gare Part Dieu, Lyon, France

Hôtel ibis Styles Lyon Centre – Gare Part Dieu is an OK hotel but set in a bit of a wasteland. While the room and hotel in general were fine there’s just nothing, apart from the train station closeby which, when I was there, was surrounded by construction activities.

I picked this hotel as I had an early train at the end of my stay. In hindsight this was a bad move as I hadn’t done enough research into the area. To get to anywhere decent you needed to walk a fair distance or jump on the tram.

All that said the room was decent, but compact, and despite all the construction work around the hotel the windows didn’t allow any noise in and I had a little bit of a view over the station to Lyon.

The bed was fairly decent and I had no trouble sleeping.

Breakfasts were included and it was the usual ibis fare of cereals, pastries, breads, fruit, juices and coffee from a machine. Good enough to fill up the tank.

For the only time in Europe during this trip I had dinner in the hotel one evening and I was surprised with the quality of the meal at a somewhat ‘budget’ hotel. The main I ordered was a fairly tasty Beef Cheek and a chocolate tart for dessert. They had some Affligem beers on tap. As I said, I was surprised that the dishes were as good as they were – it’s a pity the restaurant isn’t open on Saturday and Sunday or I would have eaten here again.

But my usual gripe about ibis hotels stands – no laundry service – grrr, seriously, all hotels should have an option to get your laundry done.
