Trunk is a restaurant bar on Exhibition Street that was the site of an 1850s synagogue – I’ve even heard of it as being the first synagogue in Melbourne. It’s now been restored into today’s venue.
Out the front on Exhibition Street is the beer garden where, on a nice Melbourne afternoon, you will want to sit under the trees and have a drink. Despite being in the centre of the city it’s a quite tranquil setting.
The beer selection is reasonable but not extensive.
For food there’s either the proper restaurant in the old synagogue building or there’s a more relaxed diner next to the beer garden.
On a nice sunny afternoon you will want to arrive early to claim your seat as it can get very busy.
