Seoul & Taipei 2024 retrospective
I was off on my first holiday since going to Europe in 2019 (Thanks COVID!). I decided to head to Seoul in South Korea and Taipei in Taiwan, spending a week in each.
Four Points by Sheraton Josun, Seoul Station
For my last night in Seoul I’d decided to stay closer to Seoul Station so it would be easy to get from and to the airport train, especially as I’d be getting in from Taipei around 9pm.
Seoulista, Jung-gu, Seoul, South Korea
I was back in Seoul for a day before flying home to Melbourne in the evening. I spent the day exploring the area just east of Seoul Station near the Sungnyemun Gate (Namdaemun). Mid afternoon I started the walk back towards my hotel but pulled up the map to look for somewhere for a sneaky … Continue reading Seoulista, Jung-gu, Seoul, South Korea
Novotel Suites Ambassador Seoul Yongsan – Seoul Dragon City, Seoul, South Korea
I will start off saying that the Novotel Suites Ambassador Seoul in Yongsan was a very good hotel, but it’s a little out of the the main part of the city and in a bit of a wasteland that is being redeveloped. You get to the hotel along a long elevated walkway from Yongsan station. … Continue reading Novotel Suites Ambassador Seoul Yongsan – Seoul Dragon City, Seoul, South Korea
Daily Beer, Gongdeok, Mapo, Seoul, South Korea
After my curry I wanted to try the Daily Beer that was close by to see if it was more lively than that one I’d visited the previous Friday.
Oretachi Curry Gongdeok Mapo, Seoul, South Korea
After an afternoon of decent beers at MysterLee I was looking for an early dinner, and my map had me heading to a small Japanese curry store just across the street from the bar called Oretachi Curry.
MysterLee Brewing Co., Seoul, South Korea
On my last Monday in Seoul I headed out to the Mapo area jumping off the metro at Gongdeog station. I got there a little early so took the opportunity to have a walk around the Gengdeok Traditional Market which seemed to be winding down for the day.
Goose Island Brewhouse, Gangnam, Seoul, South Korea
Where to go for Sunday lunch in Seoul. I decided to head over to Gangnam to check out the Goose Island Brewhouse.
Ale Crew, Seoul, South Korea
It was a beautiful Saturday and I headed out to the western suburbs of Seoul on the great metro system and was soon looking for today’s target, Ale Crew. It is about a 15 minute walk from Sinchon station. Up an incline and then down a steep set of stairs to an old railway line … Continue reading Ale Crew, Seoul, South Korea
Daily Beer Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea
On the Friday I decided to take a tour of the DMZ, about 50 kilometers northwestish from Seoul. While we couldn’t get into the Joint Security Area we were able to see over into North Korea despite the air quality being very poor. The tour had us returning to central Seoul around 4:45pm and having … Continue reading Daily Beer Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea
The Hand and Malt Brew Lab Yongsan, Seoul, South Korea
To close out the evening around Yongsan I wanted to visit a local brewery called The Hand and Malt Brew Lab Yongsan. It was about a 10-15 minute walk from Yongsan Station. I was to find out on my way home that its easier to get there underground through the metro station .
BBQ Olive Chicken Cafe, I’Park Mall, Yongsan, Seoul, South Korea
I’d decided to spend the day around the area where my hotel was so I’d headed to the I’Park Mall Yongsan for a bit of a look around. The mall is ontop of Yongsan railway station. Kiwa Taproom, Seoul, South Korea
For my first day in Seoul I decided to head up a little north to the famous Insadong Street, close to Gyeongbokgung Palace. Jumping off the metro at Jong-Gag station I walked around the area for a while before heading a little further north towards the palace. I didn’t go into the palace as it … Continue reading Kiwa Taproom, Seoul, South Korea
