Retro Rooftop, Melbourne, Australia

I have a mission to try to find all the rooftop bars in the Melbourne CBD and today I headed off to Retro Rooftop which is, as the name would suggest, a rooftop bar situated on top of Club Retro in Lonsdale Street.

383 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

It’s been many years since I’d been to Club Retro and it didn’t look familiar at all, and it certainly didn’t have a rooftop bar back then.

When I arrived about 4:15 on a Friday afternoon there was only a handful of people, maybe 15 or so, and by the time we left around 6:30 that had only doubled to about 30… maybe it gets busier later on.

The rooftop is a bit of a weird space. It appears that there used to be a proper set of rooms on the top floor and that they took the roof off to create an open area. The brick walls, windows and fireplaces are still in place around the open area. This setup feels a little claustrophobic when compared to places like Cookie Rooftop where you get a view in most directions.

The beer selection is limited and is mostly your popularist labels.

One saving grace is that the music is decent.

I’m glad I ticked this one off my list, but I probably wouldn’t go back.
